Side round planes are very specific and are indispensable when necessary. Depending upon where your interests fall, side rounds may be of interest to you.

 

These planes are used for cutting a cove that ends immediately against another facet of the molding, like an astragal, or a profile that consists of a large portion of a circle or ellipse that prevents a round from accessing its entirety.
