Hollows & Rounds Side Round Snipes Bill Rabbet Composite Sets Dedicated

Composite Sets

Starter Sets

When taking the plunge from either a router or specific molding planes, many questions arise regarding where a person should begin. Whether you are a long time woodworker that knows where his focus lies or a hobbyist that is ready to be inspired, this set of 13 planes is that beginning. The standard starter set includes 5 pairs of hollows and rounds (even sizes 2-10), a pair of snipes bill planes and a 7/8” rabbet.

These planes were chosen because of the versatility created by the continuity of consecutive pairs and the wide range of options that this many will create. This set will allow you to design and produce much of the appropriate molding for pieces ranging from jewelry or spice boxes to moderately sized casework, frames, tables, chairs and beyond. If you tend to do larger casework, the sizes of the hollows & rounds and rabbet areinterchangeable.

Connoisseur’s Set
For the cabinetmaker and joiner, many of the larger planes in a half set will be used. He who first begins with a starter set will ultimately end up seeking a pair of 12s and/or 14s for larger case work and possibly the 16s and 18s for very substantial cornice and architectural moldings. The Connoisseur’s set includes a half set of hollows and rounds (9 pairs, 18 planes), a pair of snipes bill planes and two rabbet planes, 5/8” and 1”.
